George Mason is not in this year's Final Four but they will certainly be in the TV coverage this weekend

George Mason might not have made it to this year's Final Four in Houston but that doesn't mean they won't be talked about this weekend. If you are trying your action on College Basketball Betting provided by BetUS then don't forget to catch Jim Larranaga, the Godfather of Cinderellas, will join CBS's official pre-game television coverage on Saturday starting at 4 p.m. He will join host Greg Gumbel and analysts Greg Anthony, Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith and Seth Davis. I never thought I'd see Coach L on a TV broadcast with Charles Barkley, this could be gold.

There is also going to be a special presented by Fox Sports called "Mason Impossible: The Story of Coach L and the Improbable Patriots", great title. The program will be aired on Saturday at 12 p.m., Sunday at 4:30 p.m. and Monday evening at 8 p.m. Not sure from GoMason.com's release what channel this is actually going to be on. Is there a Fox College Sports channel? Nevertheless great to see Mason getting more free pub during VCU's run.

If you don't get the Fox College Sports channel you can watch the special here. Here is the first segment, you can watch the rest by clicking that link.

Also a great read today from Patrick Stevens of the Washington Times debunking the George Mason-VCU Final Four comparisons.

Surpised you think that article by Patrick Stevens is a great read, considering it goes directly against your post from last week.

His article goes a lot deeper than what I was talking about. I shared some things that were similar between VCU-Mason but overall I can agree that they are two very different Final Four runs.

They left this stat out.
VCU is a virus. We let this virus fester and now we have to watch it grow. We have to stop this virus if it's not too late. We need to change the venue of the CAA tournament. If we don't, this virus will continue to feed off the CAA year after year. We can't stand by and be the host. How can we move that venue?

I wish my fellow Patriots would stop with this crap. No matter what you think of VCU, their success is a positive for us. More importantly, if we are in public complaining about their success, it makes us look small and bitter. We had a great run in '06, and we will have more in the future. We need to take the high road here, and show the same class that Coach L has modeled throughout his career.

The man, the myth, the legend. That's awesome about Coach L, something to look forward to tomorrow. For what its worth, Foxsports.com had the top 10 cinderellas of all time, VCU 2, Mason 1, because, they said, of the quality of the opponents Mason faced on the way.

I honestly don't care who wins from here on out, it's four good teams each with a good story.

We had a great run this year! but this is sports banter my man! If you root for the Patriots, well... that's great! But some of us are a little more into it than others. Each year is a chapter not a story. It's all connected. I'm a George Mason fan! VCU's success is not a positive in any way shape or form. We recruit the same players as VCU. Their success is our headache. Next time we have to play our way into the NCAA tournament, ask yourself a question... am i really happy that they got that recruit who's killing us tonight? Being a dedicated fan is class. Coach L makes a living off of people who take college basketball to the extreme. He's a competitive man and i bet he's kicking the furniture in his house tonight. As for being bitter in public? I wish George Mason had that kinda coverage, i truly do. I guess i'm just that guy who screams and shouts at games. Can the refs hear me? No. Can the players hear my individual voice? No. But together, the fans create a great home court advantage. I'm sorry if you think fans rooting against the guest team in public is not classy. In games i hope the other team misses all their shots. I hope they turn the ball over. I hope we wipe the floor with their faces and they remember it the next time they play us, but hey... it's a game and without passion, it's two teams just playing a game. GO MASON!!!!!!!!!!!!! I HOPE vcu LOSES BY 50 OR MORE on saturday. :)

Come to think of it, Didn't Coach L. refer to his team as assasins in 2006? that was sports banter you know!

I'm a proud Mason Grad, and the school's success has a direct impact on my personal bottom line (success on court = increase in school applications = higher academic ranking = better reputation = better job for me). Likewise, I am currently enrolled at UNC's MBA Program, and let me tell you--Duke is good for UNC. Because it pushes UNC to be better (and UNC does the same for Duke). Likewise, the players come here because they want to be a part of the greatest rivalry in college basketball. They want to be the best--and to be the best, you have to beat the best.

If VCU becomes really good long-term, it means we'll be able to recruit even better players. Sure, we might lose a couple here or there, but the players that will succeed in Coach L's system are different than those who will thrive in Shaka Smart's system. And, if the CAA has two, or three, or four perennial visitors to the NCAA tournament, and if our conference wins some games in the Big Dance, it means we'll have to be mentioned in the same breath (or just after) as the Big Six conferences.

That should be what we all want for our team. To be respected, and to be successful. Strong competition will do that for us. But if we are perceived as complaining about someone else's success, no matter where it might be, that makes us look bad. Think how people perceive Duke fans--entitled, whiny, and churlish. I want us to always be seen as classy and admirable. I know what you're saying about VCU--but we should be cheering them on, since a rising tide will lift all boats. In fact, I'm just sad that VCU and Butler can't face each other in the final--the more respect mid-majors get, the more we will get.

It doesn't diminish what our team did in 06. In fact, we were the pioneers that helped make this happen.

James agree with you. VCU is the CAA rep and as such will be rooting for them to win it all (maybe this will help eliminate the Mid Major label and help bring in recruits to GMU).

VCU can make the Finals, great for them. As our number one rival, I will not under any circumstance cheer for them to win if they play in the Championship Monday.

Having Coach L in the pre-grame coverage is great! It's nice to see mason still getting noticed even if we are not around again. Coach L seems like a good guy and having him talking on TV will be great for recruiting as well.

Would you cheer for the underdog team in the NCAA Finals if it were a team other than VCU?

You didn't !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How can such things pour out of a George Mason fans mouth! You must not under any circumstance root for VCU! Say it isn't so! I must be crazy. I must be crazy. If i'm not, you're making me.

I would not, could not and will not cheer for any other program other than ours. That being sad, i will be slightly more than indifferent about one team or another on any given day. Tonight one of those teams will be Butler.

I was going to buy a bunch of tissue and stand outside the Siegel Center and sell tissues to the sobbing crowd. My wife said she didn't want to get me from the police station or the hospital tonight so I just enjoyed the result at home. GO MASON

I love all of the free publicity that Mason is getting this weekend. Loved watching Coach L on the Final Four Show. He had the right comments and really comes off as a classy guy. Haven't seen the "Mason Impossible" show yet, but am looking forward to that. Never thought Mason would have its own basketball documentary. We have come so very far. The future is bright as well.

Amen! I will never root for VCU and I am happy they failed. MASON FANS STOP ROOTING FOR VCU, IF YOU HAVE A A PASSION FOR THEM HIT UP THEIR BLOGS! I am sick and tired of hearing you guys pop their toes. Honest;y you are pathetic fans.

James yuo are pathetic and so are all your followers! You would never ever hear a UCLA fan support USC! You comments make me sick! Knowing you I bet you you were rooting for UNC as well. I am a graduate student at Penn State and I would never root for them (just football since we dont have a team yet), I only root for the green and gold and no one else. Especially, a team in my conference that has beaten us in the CAA tourney the last couple of years. To see VCU fail brought tears of joy to my face. I hate Rozzell, Burgess, Rodriguez, Skein and especially DJ Hailey who comes from Pamldale CA! He went to my rival HS.

That would have been sweet! Honestly I hate VCU more and more each day!

Here is what I like - Coach L always promotes the CAA every chance that he gets - not the case with Shaka or our crappy commissioner. Yeager should be out there saying that the CAA is now a confirmed 2 team league - he is weak and needs to go.
I like seeing the CAA do well - VCU is my least favorite team in the league

I agree with this. Shaka did a terrible job promoting the league during their run. Probably because he knows he is bailing out as soon as possible.

I was rooting against VCU HARD CORE in the Final Four and nothing made me happier than to see them lose. That being said, did you guys really call a few fan's on these postings pathetic? Really? Come on.... as much as I wanted and loved seeing VCU lose in the Final Four, it was a GREAT thing for GMU that they actually made it there. Now, I would have been MUCH MUCH happier if they had only made it to the sweet 16, as they would have made a good point, showed the CAA is for real, and hence better recruits would come to both schools. But them winning the Final Four or even the Championship would have made me throw up in my mouth. I can't stand VCU and am pretty sure we will get them at home next year and hope we beat them by 40. BUT, again, their run was good for us and our conference as much as I hate to say it.

btw, did you all hear the Joey Rod quotes on ESPN all week? When asked about being a Cinderella team, he said "people keep calling us Cinderella, but we have been blowing teams out, so i don't care" I am glad he got his butt handed to him. Could never stand that guy

I'm not calling human beings pathetic. In the context of Being a college basketball fan and supporting your team many of us have a major difference of opinion. The problem is... those who agree with me are correct and those who disagree with me are 100% wrong. We have been to the NCAA tournament twice in the past five years. This makes us a failure in the eyes of recruits. We need to get there ever single year, every single year the kids need to see GEORGE MASON on their brackets! VCU has been a thorn in our side for a very very long time, not just the past five years but ever since Coach L got here. VCU's appearance in the final four is not a good thing for us. Eric Maynor was no help getting us recruits; he was a pain in the ass that destroyed our program for a couple of years. VCU will now have some life support since they just lost 4 of 5 starters. It's a perfect time for them to get mass recruits! This is BAD BAD BAD! Not good, but BAD! i can't believe you guys think Coach L. and his crew are happy about this. Grab your balls and scream i'm a George Mason fan! James Madison is not our rival! It's VCU and for crying out loud, never say anything positive about that program because they hate hate hate us! If you have any balls as a GEORGE MASON fan you should click on the like this. I don't know, maybe we need to recruit some fans. I know we're close to D.C but we got way too many politicians trying to be sports fans here. Stop trying to please everyone and go all out GEORGE MASON... it will feel good- i promise! Let me hear it! Let me hear it! VCU sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Come on... i know you're out there.

Well, I'm a Mason fan, and I can recognize that VCU's success is good for Mason and the CAA, so I can root for VCU to make the Final Four and y'all can kiss my ass if you don't like it. Some people need to cool it with the hysterics.

I can't help but think that is helps the CAA when we have our teams going deep into the tournament. Its a case of the rising tide raises all boats. I really can't stand VCU and they are normally classless in victory and in defeat. In fact, I would rather see any other CAA school than VCU make it to the Final 4. But when a quality prospect is looking at schools/conferences, it has to be a factor in his decsion that our conference has had a couple of teams that made it to the Final 4 in 5 years.

I really liked this headline. It has to get under VCU's skin.

Maon fans Blow! Go Rams we are the new kings of the CAA. Your little 2006 run got played out. That was all you guys had over us until 2011! We have more wins than you guys in head to head competitions, we beat more teams than you guys in the NCAA tourney, we have more CAA champions than you guys, we have more NBA talent than you guys, we beat you guys 4/5 meetings in Richmond, our coach makes more money, and word on the street is we are getting a recruit that was suppose to fo to Fairfax! Anyways, thanks for all of your support hahaha. I guess we should have rooted for you guys as well, NOT! I thought it was a joke when someone said that Mason fans were supporting us but I guess it was true. Who the hell supports the team they rival with????? Oh yeah, Mason does LMAO
